The Village Hall Redevelopment Project

The Village Hall Redevelopment project started 16 years ago when we highlighted the need to not only add a toilet for the disabled, but to erradicate the 7 different floor levels, update the kitchen and to bring the well loved old lady from one century into the next.

And so after sending out 1,800 consultation forms and getting the views of the residents of Alphington, it was decided to part rebuild and part refurbish the Village Hall and join it to it's sister hall next door 'the Shed' to make a multi-functional L-shaped community facility.

Architects plans were drawn up, with a new safer side entrance, and planning permission was granted.  Our aim is to eventually replace all of the windows to retain the same original look of the building.

The fundraising team have, over the years, arranged many events from Bingo to Markets and Easter Egg Hunts to Music In the Big Top. We have received donations from groups and individuals such as the Alphington Players, Ladies Social Group, our local Councillors, BT and the Lion's, to name but a few.

We have raised over £50,000 and was awarded £50,000 by Exeter City Council from their New Homes Bonus Fund.   To receive this fund we had to secure match funding and we are extremely pleased to have been awarded £200,000 from Viridor Credits which allowed us to start our long awaited redevelopment. We also received a further£30,000 from the ECC Grassroots grant scheme to enable to complete  the internal fittings and finishes.

The hall was closed in February 2016 and re-opened again on Saturday 25th November by long standing committee member and former chairman, Bill Cummings.

There is still more that we need to do and we would love to add more exciting faculties to the hall and there are several ways you can help.
